Prenatal classes that focus on the birth, post-birth baby care and bonding are very important. But preparing yourself, your partner and your relationship for the arrival of your baby is just as vital.
Most parents assume that having a baby will bring them closer together, but research paints a different picture: 92% of parents report increased conflict in baby's first year and 67% note a decline in relationship satisfaction (Gottman and Cowan and Cowan).
Prenatal parenthood preparation classes have been known to reduce postnatal relationship distress and depression by 60% (Gottman Institute).
