There is no hard and fast way to deal with bullies – sometimes it’s a case of trial and error. Here are a few strategies your child can implement if they are ever confronted by a cyberbully.

• Stop – do not retaliate or respond!
• Block them on social media and block their phone number.
• Report them to the app, website or game they’re cyberbullying through, and also report them to the Office of the eSafety Commissioner.
• Turn the device off, even if it’s just for 10 minutes, and do something else.
• Collect the evidence – for example, take screenshots and keep messages.

What you can do

• Help your child to block, unfriend or unfollow the bully
• Reassess their privacy settings so only people they know can contact them
• Close your child’s profile and help them start a new one
• Save a copy/take a screenshot of the bullying – if it gets really bad, you can print it and take it to the police or report it to the Office of the eSafety Commissioner.
