In May 2017, Family Life Victoria (FLV) became a subsidiary of Interrelate, a major NSW relationship services organisation, in a move that will see more services being offered to Victorian schools.
Both FLV and Interrelate stemmed from the same foundation organisation in 1926, the Father and Son Welfare Movement of Australia, before the states began operating as separate branches.
As a result of the amalgamation, FLV has added anti-bullying programs to its repertoire of already popular school programs. With studies showing that one in four students in Australia have reported being bullied, Patricia Occelli, CEO of Interrelate and Family Life Victoria, believes the new programs are going to be an enormous benefit to the schools they work with.
“We are already engaged with more than 30,000 students and 400 schools across Victoria through our sexuality programs. These new anti-bullying programs have the potential to have a significant impact on the lives of thousands of children,” says Jenny Wood, Victorian Manager. “We take the same approach to bullying as we do sexuality education – believing that early intervention, combined with age-appropriate education, will allow children to understand and develop healthy relationships with others.”
