Many men find it hard to talk about emotional or relationship concerns. Friends or partners can support a troubled person for only so long. And that’s when things start to get risky – working too hard, relationship difficulties, loss of someone close, abusing loved ones or being violent with them, using too much alcohol or other drugs, or even thinking about how to end it all.
personal counselling
someone for men to talk to even when:
- no words can describe how bad they feel or how hard life is right now
- nothing can be done to solve the problem
- they are overwhelmed by anger and rage at the injustice of it all
- no amount of talking will bring the loved one back
- there's a shameful secret that cannot be disclosed
- death seems easier than living
- the only time the pain or the problems seem to ease is after a few drinks
- talking about personal problems to a stranger was something they vowed they'd never do
family counselling
to help men communicate:
- with their partner
- with their children
- with other family members, house-mates or work colleagues
- about what's important to them
- so that they can better understand their partner, other family members or children
- about changes they want to make —in themselves or in the way they live
- what they need to be able to make life better for the whole family
family dispute resolution
in cases where:
- there is hostility or rigid positions
- lots of blame is happening from one or both sides
- parents are in constant conflict with each other so there is little capacity left to look after the children's emotional needs
- legal action and courts have seemed the only way through
- legal action and courts haven't worked
- guidance and direction is needed to negotiate entrenched positions
