what is it?

A seven session program for separated parents in conflict over parenting issues.

what will I gain?

This program assists participants to:

  • recognise the effects of on-going conflict on their children
  • access information about parenting after separation
  • develop skills to reduce conflict
  • make the parental relationship a business-like partnership
  • shift the focus from parent's relationship to children's needs
  • better understand the individual and emotional needs of each child in the family

program outline:

Session 1
Parents Not Partners
Negotiating a business-like relationship as joint parents and recognising the needs of children.

Session 2
Through the Eyes of My/Our Child
Highlighting the effects of separation on children and provide developmental knowledge and guidance for parents.

Session 3
Understanding Change
Common reactions to separation and loss, with effective solutions for parents.

Session 4
Keeping in Touch
Ideas and strategies for positive communication and helpful hints on becoming a more effective parent.

Session 5
Out of the Rut
Understanding the cycle of conflict: learning skills and techniques to avoid the escalation of conflict and providing ideas and solutions for individual situations.

Session 6
A Way Forward
The process of change, techniques for discipline and building self-esteem in children and ways to be a positive role model.
